about this Collection

The National Museum of Beirut is Lebanon’s premier archaeological museum, showcasing the country’s rich history from prehistoric times to the Ottoman era. Located in Beirut, the museum houses a vast collection of Phoenician artifacts, Roman mosaics, Byzantine treasures, and medieval relics. Among its most famous pieces are the Phoenician sarcophagi, the Ahiram inscription (one of the oldest known alphabetic writings), and intricate gold jewellery from ancient civilisations. Despite suffering damage during Lebanon’s civil war, the museum has been meticulously restored and remains a vital center for cultural heritage and historical preservation.
